How to Create a Google Review Link and Share It on WhatsApp

Most happy customers would leave you a Google review. They just won’t go looking for where to do it. A direct review link fixes that: one tap opens the star rating box for your business, with nothing to search for.
To create one, sign in to business.google.com, open your Business Profile, choose Read reviews, then Get more reviews, and tap the Copy icon. That link is free, comes from Google itself, and works anywhere you can paste text. Then send it on WhatsApp straight after the job, with a short, personal message. Below are the steps, a backup method, and ready-made WhatsApp messages for different kinds of business.
At a glance
- Time: about 5 minutes
- Cost: free
- Difficulty: easy
- You’ll need: access to your Google Business Profile, and a computer if you want the QR code
- You’ll get: a review link, a QR code and WhatsApp messages you can send today
What is a Google review link?
A Google review link is a web address that opens the “write a review” box for your business on Google. The customer taps it, picks a star rating and types a few words. No searching, no scrolling past competitors, no wondering if they found the right listing.
That matters because every extra step loses people. Ask a client to “find us on Google and leave a review” and many will mean to, then forget. Send them a link at the right moment and the whole job takes them under a minute.
How to create your Google review link (the official way)
Google gives you the link for free inside your Business Profile. You don’t need a third-party “google review link generator” to get it. Here are the steps from Google’s help page on review links and QR codes:
- On a computer, go to business.google.com and sign in with the account that manages your profile.
- Open your Business Profile and select Read reviews.
- Select Get more reviews.
- Select the Copy icon to copy your review link.
- To save the QR code, right-click it and choose Save image as.
Paste the link somewhere safe straight away: your notes app, a shared document, or a WhatsApp quick reply (more on that below).
Watch out: Google says review QR codes can currently only be made in a computer browser, not on a phone. If you only have your phone, copy the link now and make the QR code later on a laptop.
Backup method: build the link from your Place ID
If you can’t get into your Business Profile (say a former employee set it up), there’s a second route. Every business on Google Maps has a Place ID, a unique code Google uses to identify it. You can look yours up with Google’s Place ID Finder, then add it to the end of this address, as Elfsight’s guide explains:
Review link format · Place ID method
https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=[your Place ID]
Open the finished link in a private browser window to check it lands on your business, not a lookalike. Then sort out access to your profile properly, because you’ll need it to reply to the reviews you get.
Which link method should you use?
| Method | Cost | Best for | Catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business Profile “Get more reviews” | Free | Almost everyone | QR code needs a computer |
| Place ID method | Free | When you can’t log in to the profile | Easy to grab the wrong listing; test it |
| Paid review tools | Monthly fee | Businesses sending lots of requests automatically | You pay for what is mostly free; check each tool’s terms |
Our pick: Use the official link from your Business Profile. It comes from Google, costs nothing and takes a few minutes. Only pay for a tool once you’re sending so many requests that automation saves real time (see our guide to automated review requests).
How to share your Google review link on WhatsApp
WhatsApp works well for review requests because people open their messages, and Google’s own help page lists WhatsApp alongside email and Facebook as a way to send the link. The trick is timing and tone: send it soon after a good experience, from a real person, with one simple ask.
- Job done or appointment finished
- Short thank-you on WhatsApp, same day
- Review link in the same message
- One polite reminder a few days later, then stop
Save the message as a WhatsApp Business quick reply
If you use the WhatsApp Business app, save your review message as a quick reply so you never type it twice. Per this quick replies walkthrough: open the menu, go to Business tools, then Quick replies, tap +, give it a shortcut such as /review, paste your message and link, and save. In any chat, type “/” and pick it, change the name, and send.
Shortcut: Want customers to message you first, from a receipt, invoice or website button? Make a WhatsApp link with a pre-filled message using our free WhatsApp Link Generator. It pairs well with a review QR code on the same printed card.

Swap the details in [square brackets], keep it short, and send it from the person the customer actually dealt with where you can. Each one asks for an honest review, not a five-star one, which keeps you inside Google’s rules.

Where else to put your review link
| Where | What to say | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Thank-you email | “How did we do? Leave a review” | Use a button, not a long bare URL |
| Receipt or invoice | “Enjoyed working with us? Scan to review” | Print the QR code from your profile |
| Counter or reception card | “Tell others about your visit” | Never pressure people to review on the spot |
| End of a chat or support call | A short thank-you plus the link | Only once the issue is actually solved |
These placements come straight from Google’s own suggestions: receipts, thank-you emails, the end of chat conversations and printed QR codes in store.
Rules to follow so your reviews stick
Google is happy for you to ask for reviews. What it bans is anything that tilts the result. Its prohibited and restricted content policy says businesses must not:
- Offer incentives, “such as payment, discounts, free goods and/or services”, in exchange for a review.
- “Discourage or prohibit negative reviews, or selectively solicit positive reviews from customers”.
- Require or pressure people to leave reviews while on the premises.
- Ask staff to collect a set number of reviews, or to get reviews that include specific content.
That last point is newer. PPC Land reported that Google added the staff quota and specific-content clauses in April 2026, and that the policy also lists content identifying a staff member as prohibited. So don’t write “please mention Sarah” in your message.
Worth knowing: Reviewers need a Google Account to leave a review, but Google notes they can sign up with a non-Gmail address. If a customer says they can’t review, that’s usually why.
What most guides leave out
“Review link generators” mostly sell you something Google gives away. Many of the pages ranking for this search are tool vendors. Your Business Profile hands you the link and QR code for free. Paying only makes sense when a tool also automates the sending.
The “only ask happy customers” trick breaks Google’s rules. Plenty of guides suggest asking for a rating first and only sending the Google link to people who score you highly. Google’s policy bans selectively soliciting positive reviews. Send the same link to everyone you ask.
The link is the easy part; the habit is the hard part. A perfect link sitting in a notes app gets you nothing. Pick one moment in your process (job signed off, invoice paid, appointment ended) and send the message every time. A quick reply in WhatsApp Business makes that a five-second job.
Test it the way a customer would. Open the link on a phone that isn’t logged into your business account. If it opens your listing’s review box, you’re set. If it opens a map or the wrong business, fix it before you send it to anyone.
FAQ
Is a Google review link free?
Yes. Google gives you a review link and QR code free inside your Business Profile under Read reviews, then Get more reviews. You don’t need a paid generator to get one.
Can I create a Google review link on my phone?
Google’s help page only gives the computer steps, and says review QR codes can currently only be made in a computer browser, not on mobile. If you need the QR code for print, use a laptop or desktop.
Can I send my Google review link on WhatsApp?
Yes. Google’s help page lists WhatsApp messages as one way to share it. Paste the link into a short, personal message and send it soon after the customer’s experience.
Can I offer a discount for a Google review?
No. Google’s policy bans offering payment, discounts, or free goods or services in exchange for a review. Google treats it as fake engagement, which its help page says is strictly prohibited.
Why does my review link open Google Maps instead of the review box?
You’ve likely copied your listing’s share link rather than the review link. Go back to your Business Profile, use Get more reviews, and copy the link from there, then test it in a private window.
How many times should I send the review request?
Send it once, then one polite reminder a few days later at most. After that, let it go. Repeated nudges feel like pressure and can sour an otherwise happy customer.
